ABOUT:
A gynecologist basically is a physician who specializes in the treatment of the female reproductive system such as the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. Gynecologists can perform surgeries (such as laparoscopy or laparotomy) to diagnose or treat conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer and perform hysterectomies. In simple terms gynecology plainly means “the science of women”. Some or most gynecologists are also obstetricians (called OB/Gyn's). Obstetrics is the surgical specialty dealing with the care of a woman and her baby during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium (the period shortly after birth). Midwifery is the equivalent non-surgical specialty. Most obstetricians are also gynecologists (OB/Gyn's).
